I go away from the internet for a few days and look what people get up to (forgive me if you already heard about this):
Famed archaeologist Vendyl Jones is going to go digging for the Ark of the Covenant.
Even more exciting, the Kabbalists are involved so Madonna would probably do a song for the soundtrack.
Wait, that isn't exciting at all.
Posted by FLOG at May 23, 2005 2:01 PMA few days ago I heard that Jones wasn't the inspiration for Raiders of the Lost Ark. I look up the origin of the film concept and found this:
"It's not known precisely what input Kaufman [Phillip Kaufman, the first director tied to Raiders] had into the character of Indy, but one important thing he did add for sure was the idea of Indy looking for the Lost Ark of the Covenant. This was based on stories about its power that he heard as a boy in Chicago from an old Jewish doctor, who according to Kaufman, was obsessed with the Ark."

A weird coincidence? Is Jones lying? Maybe. The character in many of the initial script drafts was called "Indiana Smith," not Jones.
