London is smarter than DC:
Hmmm...mold, eh?
I'm having a similar problem at my house. A weird smell developed near my desk back in March. It comes and goes and smells like a dead skunk. I thought carpet deordorizer would solve the prob but it's back again. Various websites on black mold have me convinced that the smell is going to slowly kill me. I could call the landlord but it probably won't stink when he comes around to sniff.
Lousy house.
Anyway, you should post more photos of weird foods and such. And, while the guards outside the Buckingham Palace may not react to taunts, I'm wondering if they'll flip out like Tom Cruise if you spray water on them. Please investigate.
Posted by: Brandon at June 23, 2005 3:34 PMa solution of 1/2 bleach, 1/2 water in a spray bottle will get rid of a lot of that mildew. Works wonders over a few days or a week.
Posted by: Timothy at June 29, 2005 8:15 PMI haven't been able to pinpoint the smell. Could be the carpet, could be the walls, which makes it more difficult to fight. Maybe I should just douse everything in bleach.
Posted by: Brandon at June 30, 2005 5:21 PMI'm late to this one.
You're right, London is smarter. It's Metro's official policy that no one walk on the escalators because of potential injury (seriously). All this means is that locals get angry and out-of-towners get nudged, or worse.
Interesting that, despite the reversed driving lanes, both sides of the pond choose to stand on the right side of the escalator.
Posted by: WWB at July 5, 2005 12:12 AMYes, that is odd. I haven't driven on the English motorways, but it seems that they would require passing traffic to be on the left on a freeway. This Tube policy might be a small and unconscious nod to the rest of the world.
The Brits can only maintain the "drive on the left policy" because they are an island. Otherwise imagine the freeway changeovers at the border. But in London, a highly international city, on the Tube, they may have been forced by the influx to conform to world opinion on this. I'm sure that the English can come up with some other reason for the discrepancy, but it's a good point.
